Copywriting is the act or "occupation" of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. The product, called copy or sales copy, is written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action.  

Copywriters are responsible for creating contents on brochures, billboards, jingle lyrics, catalogs, magazine and newspaper advertisements, sales letters and other direct mail, Scripts for television or radio commercials, taglines, white papers, social media posts and other marketing communications.

You need no professional or formal experience to become a copywriter. However, a few skills are required to get started. Which includes, an ample grasp of grammar and spelling, ability to construct an interesting and engaging piece of work. It does help also if you have some personal experience of writing.

Skills required to become a copywriter.

As noted earlier, great spelling and grammar skills are all-important for a freelance copywriter. When you deliver a work that contains errors and mistakes to your clients, there is every possibility that they wouldn't return for more. Being a freelance copywriter entails you to structure your time and your own research. You will have to structure your writing times in order to meet your clients' stipulated deadlines. Therefore, great time management is of utmost importance. 

Another important skill you should own, is that of the writing skill. It doesn't have to be a formal or a professional experience. Do you write a blog frequently? Do you write content for a friend's business? Do you write a volunteer project? Share links to your work and showcase your skills?. If you currently don't have links to share, why not set up a blog and start demonstrating your writing skills? Pick a particular Niche or Topic close to your heart, be creative and start publishing some examples of your work to your potential clients.
