Eaton Partners with University of Notre Dame to Expand EV Charging Infrastructure

Eaton, a power management company, is partnering with the University of Notre Dame to expand the university's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for EV charging among the campus community and support Notre Dame's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

This ongoing collaboration is part of Eaton's broader strategy to develop sustainable power management solutions. Paul Kempf, Notre Dame's assistant vice president for utilities and maintenance, emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting the university's long-standing relationship with Eaton and its benefits.

Eaton will equip Notre Dame with Green Motion Building chargers at various campus locations, including maintenance buildings, parking lots, an administrative building, the bookstore, and the art museum. These chargers and their accompanying software will provide data to help understand EV charging patterns and demand on campus.

Geory Kurtzhals, senior director of sustainability at Notre Dame, stated that the new chargers and software will offer valuable insights for future decision-making regarding EV charging.

The chargers will be managed using Eaton’s Charging Network Manager software, facilitating installation and remote oversight of charging stations, including access control, monetization, and load management.

John Rhodes, president of Assemblies and Residential Solutions at Eaton, highlighted the benefits of the project, expressing excitement about continuing the collaboration and supporting the university’s current and future EV charging needs.
