The Range Rover Electric is becoming more prominent on the horizon.
Land Rover has released initial images of the battery-powered version of its popular SUV, which closely resembles its gas-powered counterpart, likely pleasing Range Rover enthusiasts.
The initial photos of the Range Rover Electric show the vehicle undergoing cold weather testing on Sweden's frozen lakes. The all-black prototype looks similar to the current gas model, with a comparable profile, lines, grille, and bumper, making it indistinguishable as an EV without being informed.
Despite potential changes in the final design, such as smoother shapes and additional illuminated features, the charging port might be the most noticeable difference between the models. Land Rover claims this EV will be the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created” but has not provided detailed technical specifications yet. The company emphasizes a new in-house all-electric propulsion system capable of performing in extreme weather conditions. The prototypes are being tested in Arctic temperatures as low as -40°F and in Middle Eastern deserts with temperatures up to 122°F.

Additionally, Land Rover has developed a new traction control system, distinct from the ABS-based setups in most SUVs. This system manages wheel slip for each individual electric motor, reducing torque reaction time from 100 milliseconds to just one millisecond, offering better control in icy and slippery conditions. This confirms the EV will have at least two electric motors.
The exact debut date hasn't been set, but the Range Rover Electric is expected to be revealed later this year. While the price is still unknown, it is expected to be higher than the gas model's $107,900 starting price. The waitlist for the SUV is currently open.
