Huawei HarmonyOS Hits 900 Million Devices, Boasts 1,500+ Apps: Developer Conference Highlights

Chinese tech giant Huawei announced that its HarmonyOS operating system, a competitor to Apple's iOS and Google's Android, now supports over 900 million devices. The announcement was made by Yu Chengdong, Huawei's executive director, at the company's annual developer conference in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.

Yu revealed that 2.54 million developers have contributed to the HarmonyOS ecosystem, which now includes more than 1,500 available apps. HarmonyOS, known as Hongmeng in Chinese, is an open-source operating system designed for a variety of devices, including smart screens, tablets, wearables, and cars. It was initially launched in August 2019.

Yu emphasized that HarmonyOS, now in its fourth iteration, has redefined the mobile operating system landscape by offering a reliable and independent alternative. Zhang Ning, ecology director of WPS Office, noted that HarmonyOS allows apps to be developed once and deployed across multiple platforms, reducing development costs for developers.
