This week, live event audio streaming platform Mixhalo announced the launch of Mixhalo Translate, a new translation service. This service pairs the company's ultra-low latency in-person streaming with AI-generated audio translations, which is particularly useful for conferences.

CEO John Vars highlighted that interpretation at conferences hasn't evolved much since 1995, whereas AI translation has significantly advanced. Nowadays, people often use smartphones to communicate across languages, a technology that's become so common that its groundbreaking impact is often overlooked.

Mixhalo, which debuted at TechCrunch Disrupt in 2017, initially focused on ensuring high-quality sound at live concerts for all attendees, regardless of their location in the venue. The technology has also been used in MLB, NBA, NHL, and Nascar events. In 2021, Mixhalo introduced services like Mixhalo Over Cellular (operating on 5G) and Mixhalo Rodeo (utilizing venue Wi-Fi).

Mixhalo has not revealed its AI partner for the Translate service. While the effectiveness of AI translation can vary, the service aims to provide significant improvements. Attendees can use Mixhalo Translate through an app on their smartphones, which will offer interpretations and transcriptions in 50 different languages at launch.
