Anthropic, in collaboration with venture capital firm Menlo Ventures, is establishing the $100 million Anthology Fund to support the next generation of AI startups. Each startup can receive a minimum investment of $100,000, although the maximum potential investment has not been specified. Besides financial backing, the startups will gain access to Anthropic's AI models, $25,000 in Anthropic credits, and additional credits from Menlo Ventures' firms.

The fund offers several non-monetary benefits, including access to Anthropic's expertise, developer relations support, networking opportunities with other AI companies, and periodic meetings with representatives from both Anthropic and Menlo Ventures. Additionally, startups can utilize fractional workspace access at Menlo Ventures' offices.

Anthropic does not require startups to use its Claude AI models, although it anticipates that many will choose to do so. Daniela Amodei, president of Anthropic, emphasized the fund's goal to accelerate AI applications that enhance human capabilities in sectors such as healthcare, legal services, education, energy, infrastructure, and scientific research.

The application process is straightforward, with standard questions about the company, its founders, and the product. There's an optional section for startups to outline their profitability strategy, highlighting the growing concern over AI investments potentially exceeding the technology's profitability.

This initiative is similar to OpenAI's $175 million Startup Fund. Both companies have secured substantial investments from major tech firms, with Anthropic receiving billions from Amazon and OpenAI from Microsoft. Notably, Anthropic's founders, including CEO Dario Amodei and president Daniela Amodei, previously worked at OpenAI.
