Apple Maps Launches on the Web: Now Accessible Across Multiple Browsers and Platforms

Apple has launched the beta version of Apple Maps on the web, expanding its availability beyond the Apple ecosystem. Previously available only as an app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, Apple Maps can now be accessed via Safari and Chrome browsers on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge browsers on Windows PCs. Apple plans to support additional browsers, platforms, and languages over time.

Currently, the web version provides driving and walking directions, but public transportation and cycling directions are not yet available. The beta version also lacks Look Around, Apple's equivalent to Google Street View, which offers high-quality, panoramic street-level imagery. These features are expected to be added in future updates.

Users can find detailed information on stores, restaurants, and bars, including photos, hours, ratings, and reviews, and can take actions like ordering food directly from the Maps place card. The web version also offers satellite, standard, and hybrid views of locations worldwide.

Developers can link to Apple Maps on the web, allowing their users to get driving directions and detailed place information. This expansion marks a significant step for Apple Maps, which has evolved significantly since its problematic launch in 2012. Despite the rocky start, Apple's continued investment has turned Apple Maps into a robust alternative to Google Maps.
