About the Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship is a transformative opportunity to study at Oxford University. It is a fully funded, full-time postgraduate award designed for talented young people worldwide. Rhodes Scholars typically spend two or more years in the UK, enrolling in most full-time postgraduate courses offered by Oxford.

Coverage and Benefits

The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees and provides an annual stipend. For the 2021/22 academic year, the stipend is £17,310 per annum (£1,442.50 per month), which covers living expenses, including accommodation. However, this amount does not cover partners or dependents.

The scholarship includes:

  • Up to three years of fees and stipend for DPhil (PhD) students.
  • Application fee coverage for Oxford University.
  • Fees for a student visa and the International Health Surcharge (IHS) for access to the UK’s National Health Service.
  • Two economy class flights (to and from the UK) at the beginning and end of the studies.
  • A settling-in allowance upon arrival in Oxford.
  • Additional support for visa renewal and IHS application for those continuing to a second course of study.

The selection criteria, established in 1902, remain unchanged:

  • Academic excellence (literary and scholastic attainments).

  • Traits such as truth, courage, devotion to duty, kindness, unselfishness, and fellowship.
