BYD, a leading Chinese carmaker, inaugurated its Thailand plant on Thursday, coinciding with the production of its 8 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV). This marks a significant step in the company's global expansion.

Situated in Rayong province, the plant was constructed in just 16 months and boasts an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The facility handles stamping, painting, welding, final assembly, and car component production.

BYD's investment and advanced production technology are expected to drive the development of Thailand's EV industry and the broader ASEAN region, according to Thailand's Minister of Industry, Pimphattra Wichaikul. Thailand, a key automobile production hub in ASEAN, aims to have EVs constitute 30 percent of all vehicles by 2030 under its investment promotion efforts.
