Scholarship Details:
The program supports fellows from Kyoto University conducting research in Africa and scholars from Kyoto University’s partner institutions in Africa conducting research in Kyoto. The Canon Foundation in Europe, a philanthropic organization promoting international culture and scientific relations between Europe and Japan, funds the scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold at least an MA degree and be employed as post-doctoral fellows or faculty members at Kyoto University (KU) or its partner institutions.
- Submit one of two reference letters from a prospective host at Kyoto University, proving existing partnerships.
Duration and Benefits:
Successful applicants receive financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 per year, prorated for different periods. Payments are administered directly by the Canon Foundation.

- Research plan (max 2 pages) with title, dates, and cost estimate.
- Two reference letters (max 1 page each) from academic and professional referees, including a confirmation letter from the prospective host.
