CNPC Donates Computer Equipment to University of Juba to Boost Education in South Sudan

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has made a significant donation to the University of Juba in South Sudan, enhancing the institution's technological resources. This marks the second batch of equipment donated by CNPC, consisting of 25 computers and 15 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, specifically for the School of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Lu Jiangbo, president of CNPC, emphasized the company's commitment to advancing education in South Sudan, pledging ongoing efforts to improve educational facilities in collaboration with the university. This latest donation follows a similar contribution in March, where CNPC provided computers and UPS units to the University's School of Engineering.

Vice Chancellor Robert Mayom Kuoirot expressed gratitude for CNPC's support, highlighting the impact of Chinese firms on South Sudan's economic and development sectors. He pointed out various contributions, including the construction of the central bank, the renovation of Juba Teaching Hospital, and other significant projects.

Kuoirot also mentioned the potential for further collaboration with CNPC to offer practical training for students in geology, minerals, and environmental science.

Ruben Marial Benjamin, an official from South Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, praised the strong relationship between South Sudan and China since the country's independence in 2011. He noted that over 500 South Sudanese nationals have participated in capacity-building training and seminars in China, with 25 more preparing to do so.

CNPC has been actively involved in various social welfare initiatives in South Sudan since 2011. These include healthcare assistance, natural disaster relief, and infrastructure development. Notable projects include the construction of the main computer lab at the University of Juba, the third protection of the civilian camp in Juba, and the Paloch Friendship Hospital in Upper Nile State.

In addition to its educational contributions, CNPC aims to ensure the smooth transportation of crude oil through Port Sudan, working closely with South Sudan's Ministry of Petroleum amidst disruptions caused by ongoing conflicts in neighboring Sudan.
