CRED, an Indian fintech startup, has introduced a new feature called CRED Money to help users manage and gain insights into their cash flow. This move aims to increase user engagement by offering essential personal finance tools.

Previously known for its credit card bill payment and consumer lending services, the Bengaluru-based startup is now expanding into personal finance management. CRED Money consolidates financial data from all users' bank accounts, enabling them to track transactions and recurring payments such as SIP investments, rent, and salaries on a single dashboard. Users can also search for transactions by merchant or category and receive reminders.

Leveraging India's account aggregator framework introduced by the Reserve Bank of India, CRED Money enhances transparency and user control over personal financial information. This framework allows consumers to grant temporary, purpose-specific access to their financial data across various institutions through a standardized, encrypted channel.

Despite the new feature's capabilities, CRED announced it will not monetize it. Valued at $6.4 billion, the startup employs data science algorithms to analyze the high volume of transactions conducted by its users. The platform aims to turn this data into actionable insights, helping users identify spending patterns, investment opportunities, and areas for financial optimization.

CRED claims that nearly 70% of India’s affluent population faces challenges with fragmented finances across multiple platforms, with the average customer making about 200 transactions a month. This fragmentation can lead to poor financial decision-making and impact credit scores.

CRED founder Kunal Shah highlighted the feature's benefits, stating, “We have built a product that improves every affluent person’s relationship with money and makes them less anxious about it through a trusted, insightful experience.”

Since its launch, CRED has targeted affluent, creditworthy consumers, though this demographic is not immune to financial mismanagement. Many users neglect to review bank statements, ignore important notifications, and incur late payment penalties.

Launching in phases from Thursday, CRED Money is the latest addition to the startup's expanding portfolio. CRED recently acquired Kuvera, a platform for mutual fund and stock investments. The startup's product development process involves extensive internal testing, ensuring new features demonstrate clear value before being released to the broader user base.

This strategic expansion positions CRED as a comprehensive personal finance management platform, providing users with tools to streamline their financial lives and make more informed decisions.
