Andrej Karpathy, former director of artificial intelligence for Tesla Autopilot and co-founder of OpenAI, has announced the launch of a new venture, Eureka Labs, focused on AI and education. In a recent post on X, Karpathy revealed that the startup aims to democratize access to high-quality education by creating virtual teaching assistants powered by generative AI. CoinTelegraph reports that Eureka's mission is to make elite educators and coursework available to students globally, overcoming barriers such as geography and language.

Eureka Labs plans to offer its first product, an undergraduate AI course named LLM101n, which will guide students through training an AI similar to the AI Teaching Assistant. This course will be delivered through a combination of online materials and digital and physical cohorts, enabling students to progress in small groups while maintaining personalized interactions typical of in-person learning. Karpathy emphasized that while teachers will still design the course materials, the AI Teaching Assistant will help scale and optimize student guidance.

Karpathy envisions a future where education is vastly expanded in reach and extent, making it easy for anyone to learn anything. If successful, Eureka Labs could significantly increase the number of people learning various subjects and the depth of knowledge any one person can achieve without traditional limitations.
