Extreme E, the premier off-road EV racing series, is transitioning to hydrogen and rebranding as Extreme H. The series unveiled its hydrogen-powered race car, the Pioneer 25, to mark this shift. The first season of Extreme H is set to start in April 2025 in Saudi Arabia, followed by races in the UK, Germany, Italy, and the US.
In a blog post about the transition, founder and CEO Alejandro Agag emphasized that the move to hydrogen is about more than just e-mobility; it aims to create green power solutions applicable in various environments, from remote locations to bustling cities. Agag wrote, “By launching Extreme H, we’re not only showcasing the viability of hydrogen as a fuel source but also testing the wider hydrogen ecosystem, including recharging and hydrogen transportation — as well as helping to create a market for it.”

Extreme E, which had its inaugural race in 2021, tested electric off-road vehicles in extreme environments such as deserts. The series attracted major teams, including McLaren. This year marks the fourth season of Extreme E. The Pioneer 25, the flagship race car of Extreme H, is powered by a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell.
