Microsoft has officially launched its Designer platform for AI image generation, following an extensive preview phase. Now accessible to most users with a Microsoft account, Designer can be utilized on the web in over 80 languages, as a mobile app for iOS and Android, and as a Windows app. Users can create new visuals from scratch using AI or edit existing images. The platform provides numerous templates for common image types like greeting cards, smartphone wallpapers, and profile avatars, while experienced artists can develop custom templates and use their own artwork.

Designer also integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft services, allowing images to be easily linked to Word and PowerPoint projects through the Copilot AI chatbot. However, leveraging this integration fully requires a Copilot Pro subscription.

Designer’s user experience is reminiscent of Canva, incorporating AI features similar to those found in Canva. Initially announced in 2022, Designer is integrated with OpenAI's image generator DALL-E. With Copilot already featuring DALL-E 3 and ChatGPT 4 Turbo integrations, Designer is designed to sync with these existing services.
