Philips Launches 2024 Smart Home Innovations: Palm Recognition Smart Lock, Retrofit Lock, and 2K Video Doorbell

Philips has unveiled a range of new products, with the Philips Home Access 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock taking the spotlight. This innovative smart lock offers multiple access methods, including a physical key, PIN code, the Philips mobile app, and a built-in palm scanner. The palm scanner tracks unique palm vein patterns, making it nearly impossible to hack and providing a highly secure way for families to lock their front doors.

The 5000 Series smart lock also features built-in Wi-Fi, allowing for easy setup without a secondary bridge. It is compatible with voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. An added bonus is the inclusion of a doorbell button and chime. The button glows when visitors are nearby, and pressing it sends an alert to the included doorbell chime, which plugs into a standard electrical outlet and offers five volume levels and 38 unique melodies.

Despite its extensive functionality, the 5000 Series is larger than other smart locks, though it maintains an attractive design. In addition to this model, Philips introduced the Retrofit Lock 3000 Series, a retrofit smart lock that can be controlled via a wireless keypad or mobile app.

Philips also launched the 7000 Series Video Doorbell, which captures 2K footage, supports HDR for enhanced colors, and uses both low-angle and ultrawide viewing angles to eliminate blind spots.

All three products are now available for purchase. The Philips Home Access 5000 Series Palm Recognition Smart Lock is priced at $360. The Retrofit Lock 3000 Series comes in two formats: $260 when bundled with the Wireless Key and $220 as a standalone lock. The 7000 Series Smart Video Doorbell is available for $230. These products enter a competitive market with rivals like Yale, Arlo, and Ring, but they offer unique features and distinctive designs that make them appealing alternatives.
