Rust has reached its highest-ever position in the Tiobe index of language popularity, climbing to the 13th spot this month. This milestone marks a significant leap from its previous peak at 17th place. The Tiobe Programming Index, which ranks languages based on factors such as the number of skilled engineers, courses, and third-party vendors, predicts Rust will break into the top 10 in an upcoming edition.

Tiobe CEO Paul Jansen attributes Rust's rise in the July index to a February 2024 U.S. White House report that recommended Rust over C/C++ for safety reasons. Additionally, the growing community and ecosystem support for Rust have been crucial in its ascent. Jansen remarked, "Rust is finally moving up."

The Tiobe rankings derive their data by examining websites like Google, Amazon, Wikipedia, and over 20 others. This broad scope ensures a comprehensive measure of the language's popularity based on global interest and usage.

In contrast, the Pypl Popularity of Programming Language index, which assesses how often languages are searched on Google, has already placed Rust in the top ten. This ranking includes:

  1. Python
  2. Java
  3. JavaScript
  4. C#
  5. C/C++
  6. R
  7. PHP
  8. TypeScript
  9. Swift
  10. Rust

Rust's rapid rise in both the Tiobe and Pypl indices underscores its growing influence and adoption in the programming community.
