Walnut Coding, an online platform specializing in coding education for young learners, recently supported the "Programming the Future" event in Chengdu. Founded in 2017, Walnut Coding aims to ignite a passion for science and technology in children and make high-quality coding education widely accessible. They offer courses in Scratch, Python, and C++ across China.
The event, held on July 2, 2024, and organized by the Chenghua District Education Bureau of Chengdu, sought to promote science and technology education among primary and secondary school students. Nearly 1,000 participants attended, engaging in activities like public creative programming and AI programming classes, and showcasing their AI-themed mini projects. The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony for selected projects.
One standout project was "Police Catching Thieves," a game created using Scratch by fifth-grader Junyi Bai from the Experimental Primary School Attached to the University of Electronic Science and Technology. Bai programmed characters such as police and thieves using various coding techniques.
Sixth-grader Yuyang Mo from Chengdu Jinguancheng Primary School shared his positive experience: "This activity not only allowed me to use Scratch to design games and animations independently but also stimulated my interest in programming, inspiring my independent thinking and problem-solving abilities."
Earlier this year, Walnut Coding also supported the "I am a Little Astronaut" event in Xi'an, which involved over 48,000 students from more than 180 schools. Participants demonstrated their enthusiasm for aerospace science through creative programming, with 37 students winning awards and visiting top scientific research institutions.
