With the ongoing issues caused by the CrowdStrike update, California-based startup ZeroTier has raised $13.5 million in Series A funding to enhance security for affected devices. The funding round was led by Battery Ventures, with participation from Bonfire Ventures, Anorak Ventures, Grand Enterprises B.V., Airbridge Equity Partners, and First In Ventures.
ZeroTier focuses on securing edge networks, a space traditionally dominated by legacy companies like Cisco and Palo Alto Networks. The startup supports over 3 million connected devices and 600,000 network administrators in more than 230 countries and territories worldwide.
Andrew Gault, a former venture investor, joined ZeroTier as CEO in May, aiming to drive revenue and growth. Gault co-founded Gaikai, a video game streaming platform sold to Sony for $380 million in 2012, and was the first investor in Oculus VR. Founder Adam Ierymenko has transitioned to CTO to focus on core technology and long-term vision.
Gault emphasized the growing need for scalable, vendor-agnostic security solutions for the increasing number of online devices. He stated, “There are 18 billion devices online today, expected to grow to 32 billion by 2030, but secure connectivity is a bit of an unsolved problem. We create secure connections between all these devices, making them communicate as if they’re on a local network in your office."
One of ZeroTier’s notable clients is Metropolis, a company that offers checkout-free parking payments.
