Kindred Motorworks, a Bay Area-based producer of modernized vintage vehicles, has made a significant leap into the future with the unveiling of its first fully electric vehicle (EV), the EV Bronco, at the prestigious Hagerty’s Motorlux event during Monterey Car Week. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the company, as it shifts its focus entirely to electric models, with the upcoming Kindred EV VW Bus and Kindred EV Chevy 3100 pickup already in the pipeline.

Cutting-Edge Engineering: The Power Behind the EV Bronco

The Kindred EV Bronco replaces the traditional 5.0-liter V8 engine with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain powered by an 80 kWh battery, which supports DC fast charging. This advanced system, developed in-house by Kindred’s engineering team, is designed to deliver the same capabilities as its internal combustion counterparts. With an estimated output of 402 hp and 492 lb-ft of torque, the EV Bronco promises impressive performance, pending final field tests and tuning.

Thoughtful Design and Premium Features: A Blend of Vintage and Modern

The EV Bronco is available in 11 colors, with light cream or black accents depending on the chosen primary paint. The vehicle’s interior is equally impressive, featuring custom leather upholstery, heated front seats, and retractable three-point seat belts for all seating positions. The LCD gauge cluster pays homage to the original Bronco’s instrumentation, while modern touches like automatic retractable steps with LED illumination enhance convenience.

Inside, a premium audio system with a subwoofer is integrated with the touchscreen media center, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a backup camera. Additional features include full LED lighting, keyless entry, power windows and locks, air conditioning, and a wood bed floor with a modular cargo tie-down system.

Engineering Excellence: Robust Build and Advanced Capabilities

The Kindred EV Bronco is built on a reinforced and powder-coated frame with an independent front suspension and a multilink coil-spring rear. The vehicle comes standard with Wavetrac limited-slip differentials, rack and pinion steering with electric power assistance, and four-wheel power disc brakes with regenerative braking. A six-point roll cage and an automatic electric parking brake ensure both safety and ease of use.

The EV Bronco’s body is designed with versatility in mind, featuring a standard bikini top and optional hardtop with a locking liftgate. The doors are removable, and the tailgate includes a soft-open feature, adding to the vehicle’s rugged, user-friendly appeal.

The Future of Kindred Motorworks: A Commitment to Zero Emissions

Rob Howard, founder and CEO of Kindred Motorworks, expressed his excitement about the company’s future, stating, “The Kindred EV Bronco ushers in a new era by delivering an incredibly user-friendly, zero-emissions experience wrapped in a timeless, iconic design. This is a thrilling moment, and there are many more to come.” As Kindred Motorworks continues to innovate, their dedication to producing fully electric, modernized vintage vehicles is set to redefine the classic car market.
