This partnership aims to enhance their competitiveness in the highly competitive automotive market, with Mitsubishi joining the alliance framework.


Collaborative Research on SDV Platform

The cornerstone of this collaboration is the next-generation SDV platform. Nissan and Honda have agreed to conduct joint research on fundamental technologies, aiming to complete basic research within a year and consider the possibility of mass production development based on the results. This effort underscores the companies' commitment to advancing intelligence and electrification in the automotive industry.


Major Areas of Cooperation: Batteries and e-Axles

Batteries

Batteries are critical for EVs, and the companies will explore cooperation from both short-term and long-term perspectives. This includes sharing specifications and mutual supply, with the goal of offering a wide range of battery options and achieving cost reductions. A basic agreement has been reached to standardize battery cell modules for EVs, with plans to supply lithium-ion batteries manufactured by L-H Battery Company, Inc., to Nissan in North America after 2028.


e-Axles

Nissan and Honda have also agreed to standardize the specifications of their respective e-Axles for next-generation EVs. The initial step involves sharing motors and inverters, the core components of the e-Axle, to streamline development and production processes.


Mutual Vehicle Complementation

The partnership will explore vehicle complementation from short-term to long-term perspectives. Nissan and Honda have agreed on models and regions for mutual complementation and established a joint product review system. Both ICE and EV models are being considered for this initiative.


Energy Services and Resource Circulation in Japan

Nissan and Honda are studying the possibility of cooperation in energy services and resource circulation in Japan. This includes exploring charging infrastructure, energy equipment, and services utilizing batteries to create a more sustainable and efficient energy ecosystem.


Building a Carbon-Neutral and Accident-Free Future

Both companies are focused on promoting R&D and investment in various technologies to advance EVs and SDVs. They recognize the rapid technological innovation in fields like autonomous driving, connectivity, and AI, which are crucial for the future value and competitiveness of vehicles. Investor Confidence and Future Plans

Aurora's recent capital raise, exceeding its goal by securing $483 million, highlights investor confidence in the company's long-term potential. This funding is expected to sustain operations well into 2026 and supports Aurora's goal of deploying driverless trucks at scale and achieving cash flow positivity by 2028.
