Since its launch in 2019, Pirelli's Elect tyres have achieved over 500 homologations, marking a significant milestone for the company in the electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) segments. These tyres are specifically designed to enhance the unique characteristics of EVs and hybrids, providing drivers with numerous benefits such as increased battery range, improved grip, and reduced tyre wear.
With their low rolling resistance, Pirelli Elect tyres can extend battery range by up to 50 kilometers, potentially saving drivers up to 150 euros annually on charging costs. Additionally, these tyres offer superior acoustic comfort, reducing interior noise by up to 20%, and are engineered to handle the high torque and weight of electric vehicles.
Expanding Elect Technology Across Pirelli's Product Lines
Pirelli Elect technology, which debuted with the first-generation P Zero tyres for the Porsche Taycan, is now integrated into an increasing number of Pirelli’s main product families. The P Zero range, known for its high performance, is particularly favored by premium and prestige car manufacturers for their sportier models. This range, which includes over 30% of Elect-equipped sizes, combines high performance with the efficiency and comfort required by EVs and PHEVs. The Scorpion range, dedicated to SUVs, and the Cinturato range, designed for sedans and CUVs, also feature Pirelli Elect technology.
Furthermore, Elect technology is becoming more prevalent in Pirelli’s winter and all-season tyres, with 22% and 17% respectively incorporating this technology, offering noise reduction and rolling resistance benefits even in challenging weather conditions.

Pirelli's achievement of over 500 homologations solidifies its leadership in the EV and hybrid tyre market. The company’s focus on developing technology that adapts to the specific requirements of different vehicles, tyres, and seasons is evident in its growing influence within the premium and prestige car segments. Piero Misani, Chief Technical Officer of Pirelli, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, "The number of homologations obtained from major manufacturers confirms the validity of the path we have chosen to follow, which is to offer technology that can be adapted to vehicles, tyres, and seasons."
Pirelli continues to utilize modern development tools such as virtualization and artificial intelligence to design products that meet the evolving technical and performance demands of electric vehicles.

Seven out of 10 premium and prestige car manufacturers now choose Pirelli tyres developed specifically for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This strong market presence reflects the success of Pirelli's strategy in aligning its tyre technology with the needs of the growing electric vehicle market.
