Rivian has officially launched its new "travel kitchen," a smaller, more affordable, and portable version of its previously teased camp kitchen. Retailing at $1,400, this reimagined accessory is now available for purchase, marking a significant departure from the larger, prototype version first introduced at Overland Expo West in 2019. Unlike the earlier model, which never made it to market, the new travel kitchen is designed to be more accessible and practical for outdoor enthusiasts.
Features and Functionality: Compact Design Meets Sustainability
The new travel kitchen is designed to be more user-friendly, folding up compactly for easy transportation. It can be moved effortlessly from the vehicle's frunk or gear tunnel to the tailgate for setup. The kitchen features a two-burner induction cooktop, optimized to share 1,500W of power, which can be sourced from Rivian R1 vehicles or any 120V power outlet with 15A of current. Additional features include a food-safe prep space that remains level on tailgates, dimmable lights with retractable poles for nighttime cooking, and a cutting board made from recycled materials. The interior components of the kitchen are crafted from castor plants, aligning with Rivian's commitment to environmental sustainability.

A Shift from the Original Camp Kitchen Prototype
The original camp kitchen prototype, unveiled five years ago, was significantly larger and required a special shuttle system to slide in and out of the R1T pickup truck’s gear tunnel. This version was priced at $5,000 for the kitchen alone, with an additional $1,500 for the shuttle system. It also included features like a refillable water tank, which are not present in the new travel kitchen. The updated version, however, is designed to be more versatile and accessible, appealing to a broader range of outdoor enthusiasts.
Expanding the Outdoor Lifestyle: Accessories and Collaborations
In addition to the travel kitchen, Rivian is offering a variety of add-on accessories to enhance the outdoor cooking experience. These include cookware, utensils, an apron, and even a coffee grinder. While Rivian is not manufacturing these accessories themselves, they have partnered with the well-known outdoor company Snow Peak to provide high-quality, reliable gear that complements the travel kitchen.
Rivian’s Broader Push into the Outdoor Market
The introduction of the travel kitchen is part of Rivian's larger strategy to position itself as a brand that resonates with outdoor adventurers. Earlier this year, the company unveiled a “treehouse” rooftop tent equipped with a movie projector, powered by the Rivian vehicle itself. This is just one of the many accessories Rivian plans to offer alongside its upcoming next-generation R2 SUV and future R3 EVs, catering to customers who value sustainability and outdoor experiences.
