Smart, the electric vehicle brand co-owned by Mercedes-Benz and Geely, is set to expand its lineup with the introduction of the smart #5. Following the smart #1 and smart #3 models, the smart #5 is a mid-size SUV that promises to bring the smart Concept #5 to life. This new model will cater to consumers with active lifestyles, opening up a new segment for the brand. The world premiere of the smart #5
is scheduled for August 28 in Brisbane, Australia, with the vehicle expected to be available in Europe by 2025.
Bringing the Smart Concept #5 to Reality
Earlier this year, the smart Concept #5 was unveiled at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, offering a glimpse into the brand’s vision for a larger, multi-purpose vehicle. The first sketches of the smart #5 reveal that the production model will closely follow the innovative design and features of the concept car. The smart Concept #5 boasted an 800-volt drive system and a battery with over 100 kWh capacity, enabling super-fast charging—up to 70% state of charge in just 15 minutes—and an all-electric range exceeding 341 miles (549 km). The vehicle also features five driving modes and an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) to ensure safety and comfort in various driving conditions.

Designed by Mercedes-Benz Design, the smart #5 embodies the brand’s philosophy of ‘love, pure, unexpected,’ merging an unconventional aesthetic with practical functionality. The smart #5 is the most muscular and dynamic smart car to date, yet it maintains the brand's approachable character. The vehicle’s exterior is distinguished by its boxy, upright silhouette, a unique roofline, and unexpected outdoor elements, offering ample space and premium comfort. Rigorous Testing for Premium Performance
The smart #5 has already proven its outdoor capabilities through rigorous off-road and winter testing over the past few months. These tests highlighted the impressive performance of the electric powertrain, including the battery’s charging capabilities under extremely cold conditions.
